Water Quality Dashboard Help
The CHNEP Water Quality Dashboard presents the latest monitoring data for estuaries, streams, and lakes within the CHNEP study area, using an interactive and dynamic interface. This page will help familarize users with all the functionality of the dashboard application.
The system may be accessed at this URL: https://waterinstitute.maps.arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/5e748a3eae8743d7b0e6db636aa4975f
Overview
The dashboard displays the most recent data for five individual parameters:
- Dissolved Oxygen Saturation
- Chlorophyll a
- Total Nitrogen
- Total Phosphorus
- Bacteria: Escherichia coli (freshwater) or Enterococcus (marine) or Fecal Coliform (SEAS Classification) (marine)
Data values are presented within gauges, with the value displayed on the gauge and the needle position indicating that value. Each gauge is color-coded based on regulatory criteria to be found in the Florida Administrative Code for that parameter:
If a waterbody does not have a regulatory threshold for a particular water quality parameter, its gauge will be shown in white.
The top of the gauge area displays the name of the waterbody for which data are being shown. Above the gauge is the name of the parameter for which data are presented, and the units used. Below each gauge are shown the sampling date, the agency responsible for taking the measurement, and whether the sampling value is above or below the regulatory threshold.
Selecting a Waterbody
Selecting a waterbody will change the gauges to show the latest data for that waterbody. Select a waterbody by clicking/tapping on it on the map. To zoom to the selected waterbody, use the selection tool that appears in the upper left corner of the map once you click on the waterbody.
The tool allows you to switch between “Zoom to” and “Pan” modes, to help in waterbody selection.
To change the map extent (portion that is displayed):
- To pan the map, click/tap and drag.
- To zoom in/out: 1) Click/tap on the +/- symbols (lower right corner of the map); 2) use your mouse wheel; or 3) pinch the screen on a mobile device.
You can use the right-hand filter panel to show particular categories of waterbodies:
- Waterbodies of a certain type: Estuaries (bays), lakes, springs, or streams
- Waterbodies that exceed a regulatory threshold: Chlorophyll a, Total Phosphorus, Total Nitrogen, or Bacteria (value *above* threshold), or Dissolved Oxygen Saturation (value *below* threshold)
- If no filter boxes are checked, all waterbodies will be shown.
Changing the Base Map
To change the base (background) map, click/tap on the basemap tool at the upper right corner of the map:
